February 11th-17th is Eating Disorders Awareness Week and this year’s key phrase is ‘Sock it to eating disorders’. Beat (Beating eating disorders) is the organisation behind the week and is encouraging people and groups to use socks in creative ways in order to raise money and awareness – b-eat.co.uk
So what do you need to do? Find a sock, ANY sock, although Beat colours are pink and blue. Either design your own pattern or follow the following (or any pattern) for sock puppets – pattern (note: this is the clearest I found on the internet. It makes it look harder than it is and says that you need a glue gun – I say you don’t! Unless you have one, in which case use it and then share it! Skip the cardboard mouth interior and voila, no need for a glue gun. If you have a pattern, do e-mail and I’ll share!).
The puppets can be as simple or complex as you like, and can be made at home. If you’re not creative, come to the event below as we’ll have a puppet making stall! I’ll bring buttons, ribbon, felt, needles, etc, so that you can decorate your sock. Photos/socks should be sent in by Friday 8th.
